PCMall goes live

PCMall has officially gone live. Following closely in the footsteps of our highly successful MacMall.com rollout earlier this year, PCMall is now armed with a completely revamped digital storefront. But while launching a massive, business-to-business e-commerce site dedicated to mission-critical IT solutions and computer sales is a big deal on its own, it’s how this site was built that makes it a true game-changer.

Breaking the IT Bottleneck

If you work in enterprise e-commerce, you know the standard drill for a massive website replacement. It usually involves endless back-and-forth between the marketing department and the IT team. Marketing wants to change a layout, push a new promotion, or restructure a product category, and IT has to hardcode it while juggling a hundred other critical infrastructure tasks. It is traditionally a slow, frustrating bottleneck.

But not this time.

The most amazing thing about the new PCMall platform is that the transition was driven almost entirely by the marketing team.

Handing Over the Keys

When we architected the platform, the goal was to separate the underlying infrastructure from the front-end merchandising and content management. We wanted to build a system where the people actually selling the products had the power to manage the store.

Because the tools are so intuitive and the architecture is so flexible, the "marketing guys" at PCMall were able to take the reins. They managed the layouts, the product staging, and the overall customer experience with only minimal, structural assistance from the IT department.

What This Means for Business Speed

By removing the reliance on IT for everyday website operations, PCMall was able to execute this massive rollout in just a few short months. That kind of speed to market is incredible for a site that handles heavy B2B transactions and complex data storage solutions.

When your marketing team can move at the speed of the market without waiting on development sprints, your entire business becomes more agile. This launch proves that with the right technology in place, enterprise e-commerce doesn't have to be slow and rigid.

We are incredibly proud of what the PCMall team has accomplished with this platform. If you want to see what a marketing-driven enterprise storefront looks like, head over to http://pcmall.com and take a look around.
